Acquisition successfully completed – GreenCycle commences with the integration of Tönsmeier

Neckarsulm / Porta Westfalica, August 29, 2018. GreenCycle, a Schwarz Group company, has successfully completed the acquisition of the Porta Westfalica-based Tönsmeier Group. With the now completed closing and the early approval without conditions by the European Cartel Office, meet the requirements for the integration of the successful company established in the German waste management industry.

The business with current and other potential customers is to be expanded together. The existing contacts and services will remain in place for customers as well as partners.

The Tönsmeier Group is one of the largest waste disposal companies in Germany. Over the years, the family-owned company has built up vast technological know-how and is a leading environmental service provider in the German waste management industry. Tönsmeier has 70 locations and more than 3,000 employees, all of whom will be acquired by GreenCycle.

GreenCycle, a company that belongs to the Neckarsulm-based Schwarz Group (Kaufland, Lidl), is investing in the capacities and technologies of the Tönsmeier Group. »We are pleased that we will be working together with an experienced and firmly established partner in the waste management industry,« explains Dietmar Böhm, Managing Director of GreenCycle. »From our side, Lars Köhler, previously authorized signatory of GreenCycle, will become an additional Managing Director of the Tönsmeier Group,« he added.

For Gerd Chrzanowski, CEO of Schwarz Zentrale Dienste KG and responsible for GreenCycle, the acquisition is both an enrichment and a forward-looking step: »With the acquisition of the Tönsmeier Group, GreenCycle is further expanding its waste disposal and recycling expertise. We plan to use the services and solutions of the Tönsmeier Group to further close our circulation systems and promote recycling and recyclability.«

GreenCycle pursues a clear growth strategy and is looking to establish itself in the market as an innovation driver for environmental services and sustainability.

Schwarz Group // GreenCycle GmbH: The Schwarz Group includes the retail companies Lidl, Kaufland, Schwarz Dienstleistung KG as an administrative service provider and Schwarz Zentrale Dienste KG that includes the respective operational service areas and production companies.

The Schwarz Group is represented in over 25 countries in Europe with a total of 11,730 stores and employs around 400,000 people, 155,000 of them in Germany. The company is based in Neckarsulm, Baden-Württemberg.

GreenCycle GmbH is the Schwarz Group’s supply and disposal company and is responsible for the Lidl, Kaufland and production divisions as a service and system provider. It also controls and manages the pool of the Heilbronn-based Half Pallet centrally. Besides its retail activities, GreenCycle GmbH has also been very successful in the market with its ongoing portfolio expansion for many years. GreenCycle GmbH recently took over waste management companies and built its own.

Tönsmeier Group: The Tönsmeier Group, based in Porta Westfalica in East Westphalia, is the number five in the German waste management industry and ranks among the leaders in the sector in Europe. The Group is active in Germany, the Netherlands and Poland with 70 sites, more than 3,000 employees and sales of around EUR 500 million (2017).
